Foreign affairs officers interpret the foreign policy of their homeland to government officials of their host country while fostering friendly political and commercial relationships.

 

Foreign affairs officers make periodic reports to their supervisors regarding political activities, market conditions, public opinion and other matters.

 

They might be involved in negotiating trade agreements and treaties that help protect the economic, legal and political interests of their homeland.

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Plan, develop and manage the operations of their office

• Oversee the expenses and budget of their office

• Oversee the acquisition and maintenance of government property

• Supervise office personnel

• Assist visitors and residents from their homeland who are visiting or reside in the host country with any problems they face relating to Visas and passports

• Interpret foreign policy of homeland to government officials of host country

• Negotiate trade agreements with host country

• Promote understanding between homeland and host country
