Sound Technician Job Description

Sound technicians are responsible for assembling, operating and maintaining the technical equipment which is used to record, amplify, enhance, mix or reproduce sound.

Sound technicians must identify the sound requirements for a given situation and perform the actions required to produce the necessary sound.

Typical Job Duties

• Create and alter sound effects for use in television, film, advertisements and other productions

• Mix and balance speech, sound effects and music

• Operate, maintain and repair sound equipment

• Apply technical knowledge of sound recording equipment to produce certain sounds for specific situations

• Liaise with producers and directors to determine the sound requirements of the production

• Assess the needs of the production and find or build the necessary equipment

• Anticipate and correct any sound problems
