Editorial writers compose opinion pieces that comment on topics of public or reader interest. Editorial writers must compose pieces that align with and represent the viewpoints of the publication which employs them.

Typical Job Duties

• Prepare articles based on assignment or personal initiative

• Advise editor regarding possible subject matter for editorial pieces

• Use personal knowledge and research of subject matter to compose articles

• Confer with editor to ensure the article aligns with the viewpoints of the publication

• May specialize in a particular field, such as politics, sports, religion, international affairs, finance, politics and other subjects
