Youth Counselor Job Description

The work of youth counselors aims to improve the emotional, physical, intellectual and social development of vulnerable youth.  

Typical Job Duties

• Establish trusting relationships with youth and their families

• Implement various strategies, such as developing a structured environment and participating in daily activities

• Assist individuals with identifying their strengths

• Develop and maintain individual and group treatment plans

• Perform behaviour management actions

• Maintain individual progress files

• Respond effectively to acts of aggression or self-destructive behaviours
