Forensic Psychologist Job Description

Forensic psychologists evaluate the mental state of a patient who has been incarcerated or is awaiting trial, in order to determine if they are competent enough to stand trial or if they are fully criminally responsible for the crime for which they stand trial.

Typical Job Duties

• Mentally evaluate and test patients who have been incarcerated or are awaiting trial

• Present findings of tests and evaluations in order to determine the extent of their criminal responsibility and competency to stand trial

• Aid law enforcement agencies in profiling sexual predators, arsonists and other offenders

• Confer with law enforcement agencies and court system personnel

• Maintain detailed patient files
