Production Researcher Job Description
A production researcher performs research in order to collect historical, scientific or other forms of factual information related to the production of a specific television or radio program or film production.
They must verify and properly prepare the information as well as cite the applicable references.
Typical Job Duties
• Source potential interviewees and conduct initial interviews
• Liaise with script writers, producers and directors in order to determine the information needs of the production
• Source and research facts, figures and information using the internet, film and tape archives, specialist collections, picture libraries, museums and government departments
• Source copyright for literary and music sources and gain clearance for any materials used
• Brief script writers regarding the findings of research
• Recruit freelance staff and negotiate fees
• May be involved in the development and creation of ideas for new programs, or improvements for existing ones
