Lithographer Job Description
Lithographers prepare metal plates or transfer information into computer programs which are used to print books, magazines, labels and other items.
Typical Job Duties
• Select types of plates to be used based on length of press runs
• Using erasers and needles, perform minor deletions, additions or corrections to completed plates
• Operate and maintain laser plate making equipment which converts electronic data to plates without the use of film
• Scale copy for reductions and enlargements, using proportion wheels
• Prior to printing, examine photographs for obvious imperfections
• Enter, store, and retrieve information on computer-aided equipment
• Adjust scanners to meet specific color densities, sizes, screen rulings, and exposure attributes
