Fish and Game Warden Job Description

Fish and game wardens are responsible for preventing fish and game law violations. They must also patrol assigned areas, collect biological data and investigate reports of damage to property and crops as caused by wildlife.

Typical Job Duties

• Seize equipment used in fish and game law violations

• Arrange for the disposition of fish or game illegally taken or possessed

• May provide advice and information to park visitors and residents

• Ensure the protection of native wildlife, ecosystems and plants

• Perform patrolling duties by boat, car, horse, airplane or foot in order to enforce fish and game laws

• Issue permits and other such documentation

• Create and implement control measures for the prevention of damage caused by wildlife or people

• Collect and report information on populations and conditions of fish and wildlife in their habitats, availability of game food and cover, and pollution

• Determine the cause of incidents of crop, property, or habitat damage or destruction
