Tourism officers are responsible for developing and promoting tourism as a means of stimulating economic activity within a certain region.
Tourism officers may work for local authorities, public sector agencies or private companies.
Typical Job Duties
• Develop tourism information and promotional materials, such as art work, press releases and brochures
• Attend trade shows and exhibitions
• Plan tours and related itineraries
• Liaise with local operators, the media, designers and printers
• Oversee the work of tourism staff
• Operate within budgetary restrictions
• Send e-newsletters to local businesses
• Prepare and present reports for various travel and tourism related committees
