Staff Writer Job Description
Staff writers compose articles, features, and general content for newsletters, journals, magazines, websites and other informational outlets.
They may compose articles of varying subject matter, depending on the requirements of their employer.
Typical Job Duties
• Confer with editors or management in order to determine subject matter of composition
• Conduct research on subject of article, feature or content subject matter
• Search public records, internet databases, police reports, property transfer records, journals, company reports and other sources of information
• Interview individuals who may contain information relevant to subject matter
• May perform some editing tasks
• Work with print or web publication designers to create an aesthetically pleasing package
• Receive feedback and make appropriate changes
