Producer Job Description

Producers are responsible for coordinating the making of theatre productions, films, and radio and television programs. They are involved throughout every stage of the project, from conception to final production and distribution.

Typical Job Duties

• Initiate the idea for a film, theatre production or radio or television program

• May be responsible for obtaining the rights to a script

• Seek funding for the production

• Recruit and hire key staff, including writers, directors and production crew

• Oversee production plans and schedules

• Manage production budget

• Negotiate terms with distributors and broadcasters

• Ensure completion of post production work

• Oversee the promotion of the production
