Women's Advocate Job Description

Women’s advocates aim to empower women who are the victims of domestic violence and sexual assault by providing support and advocacy services in a shelter setting. 

Typical Job Duties

• Make presentations to community groups and other interested parties

• Respond to assistance requests from shelter residents

• Assist with the training of new staff and volunteers

• Assist with problem solving and conflict resolution among residents

• Facilitate support group sessions

• Assist residents with goal setting

• Answer crisis calls, explain options, and assist in getting women to safety

• Review program logs and document interactions with residents

• Provide crisis intervention services and assistance
