Theatre Director Job Description

Theatre directors oversee all stages of a theatrical production in order to ensure its script is creatively and properly interpreted by the cast. 

Typical Job Duties

• Operate within budgetary constraints

• Conduct auditions in order to select cast

• Select and hire musicians, designers and other staff

• Liaise with marketing and promotions staff

• Help to publicize the production by giving interviews

• Schedule, manage and conduct rehearsals

• Work with writers in order to ensure their script is properly interpreted

• Attend preview performance and prepare detailed notes for the cast and production teams
