Mediator Job Description

Mediators are responsible for acting as neutral third parties for the purpose of finding mutually acceptable resolutions to their conflicts.

Mediators may be involved in conflicts among neighbours, spouses, labour and management, business partners, parents and children, landlords and tenants, businesses and customers, and others.   

Typical Job Duties

• Confer with both parties to gain thorough understanding of the conflict

• Help disputants clarify the issues, their needs and their interests

• Help both parties identify creative solutions to their problems

• Ensure the proposed solutions are acceptable to both parties

• Facilitate communication between disputants

• Use conflict resolution techniques
