Foster Care Worker Job Description

Foster care social workers are responsible for improving the lives of children placed or to be placed in foster care on a social and psychological basis. Foster care social workers are employed by governmental agencies or family service organizations.

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Find homes for children who have been separated from or abandoned by their parents

• Seek new families for foster care placement network

• Visit the family and the child to ensure the relationship is working

• Contact school officials to see how the child is performing in his or her studies and socialization

• Act as a mediator when domestic problems arise

• Maintain files of foster families and children and comprehensively document interactions with families, school officials and children

• Provide training and counseling to children to help them make the most out of their foster home placement
