Family Support Worker Job Description

Family support workers work directly with children in need and their families in order to promote, strengthen and develop the potential of parents and children within a family context. The family support worker provides intensive services to families in crisis, as well as planned interventions.

Family Support workers will work in a variety of settings, family and foster homes. They will plan and participate in programs of work with parents and children, both individually and in-groups

Typical Job Duties

• Take part in any standby arrangements

• Liaise with colleagues in Children’s Services, Adult Services and any other related agencies

• Develop network of community resources

• Work closely with commissioning Children and Families Social Workers as part of agreed plans for children

• Assess and promote children’s development

• Assess and promote parenting skills

• Keep written records and produce case reports
