Psychotherapist Job Description
Psychotherapists use personal and group treatment plans, as well as a variety of non-medical based treatments to help individuals, families and groups overcome psychological and emotional issues.
Typical Job Duties
• Maintain current knowledge of industry theories, practices and procedures
• Undergo supervision with another appropriately qualified professional in order to raise personal issues and professional concerns which arise from work
• Asses needs, build trust and gain understanding of client’s issues by conducting individual sessions
• Encourage the client to talk about and explore their feelings and behaviour
• Address the client’s thought process, feelings and behaviour
• Run group sessions in a training capacity for other professionals who are interested in learning more about how group sessions function
• Maintain comprehensive client files
