Gender Consultant Job Description
Gender consultants are responsible for working with government agencies and non-governmental organizations to strengthen the gender focus of a nation, in order to promote the rights of those who are most marginalized within a society.
Typical Job Duties
• Design and conduct reviews of the current status of gender mainstreaming within specified countries or regions
• Analyze and review government initiated and led gender policy and programming
• Provide guidance on mainstreaming good gender equity practice into the human resource systems of target organizations and agencies
• Provide practical recommendations to support the appropriate organization or agency to implement its gender goals
• Conduct targeted training for agency staff on gender analysis and gender sensitive programming
Support development of gender indicators for institutional monitoring of gender goals
• Design and undertake specific research tasks, as directed, to strengthen the organization’s understanding of gender dimensions of violent conflict, justice and peace-building in key areas of its operation
