Diplomat Job Description
Diplomats are responsible for acting as a representative of their home country in relations with other countries. Diplomats must also work to facilitate relations with other countries, especially during times of negotiation or crisis. A diplomat is a blanket term used to describe any individual involved in foreign service, from a first year culture officer to a long-standing ambassador.
Typical Job Duties
• Develop and administer home country’s development and assistance programs
• Review political and economic development in home and host country
• Assist and advice on foreign policy matters
• Prepare periodic reports on work being conducted
• Meet with authorities of host country
• May negotiate treaties and various agreements with other countries
• Communicate the position of home country in regards to various platforms and issues
• Protect the interests of the citizens of the home country who are visiting or residing in the host country
