News Writer Job Description

News writers are responsible for writing news stories for publication or broadcast from written or recorded notes that are supplied by reporting staff. 

Typical Job Duties

• Review and evaluate written or recorder notes supplied by reporting staff in order to isolate important details

• Verify facts by performing research

• Obtain supplemental information by conducting interviews and conducting further research

• Prepare news stories that conform to specified length, style and formatting requirements

• Liaise with editors, producers and directors
