Historical Artifact Conservator Job Description
Historical artifact conservators are responsible overseeing the efforts related to cleaning, restoring and preserving archaeological specimens and historical artifacts.
Historical Artifact Conservator Job Duties
- Prepare reports of preservation or restoration activities
- Treat artifacts to prevent or minimize physical deterioration
- Restore artifacts by polishing, joining together broken fragments and other procedures
- Record the treatment given to each artifact
- Clean, repair and reinforce artifacts such as weapons, mummified remains, pottery and others
- Use chemicals, hand and power tools to perform cleaning, restoration and conservation duties
- May design and conduct research relating to the improvement of restoration and conservation methods
