Art therapists are responsible for using the visual arts as a medium for assisting clients with expressing intense emotion and exploring their thoughts in non-verbal ways. They aim to engage their clients in the creative personal process in order to help them heal or develop self-awareness.

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Liaise with other professionals from various disciplines such as teachers, psychologists, occupational therapists and psychiatrists

• Enable clients to explore their art work and the process of its creation

• Plan, schedule and implement activities with individuals or groups

• Prepare and maintain detailed case notes

• Assess and understand the feelings or temperament of others

• Attend meetings and seminars in order to share professional experience and learn from others

• Constructively challenge the attitudes and behaviours of clients
