Film Director Job Description

Film directors are responsible for developing an artistic vision for a film production. They must work with producers, writers, cast members, crew members, designers and other professionals in order to implement that vision.

Typical Job Duties

• Liaise with producers and screenwriters in order to discuss shots and any necessary changes to the script

• Liaise with art director to review and approve storyboards

• Identify needed sets, costumes, props and locations

• Consult with producers regarding the hiring of crew members, such as costume and set designers

• Consult with producers and casting directors regarding the auditioning and hiring of cast members

• Give artistic instruction to cast members

• Consult with cinematographer regarding desired mood, textures, contrasts and other atmospheric elements

• Develop working budget and shooting schedule
