Production Editor Job Description
Production editors are responsible for overseeing the production process and content of publications. They must perform duties that range from proofreading content, to preparing and managing a budget.
Typical Job Duties
• Manage the work activities of publication staff
• Confer with writers, editors, clients, vendors, illustrators, photographers and marketing staff
• Schedule publishing dates and deadlines
• Ensure that written materials meet quality standards and publication deadlines
• Select content that will be featured in books, magazines, journals, newspapers or other publications
• Negotiate contracts with freelance writers
• Proofread and edit content
• Offer improvement to suggestions to authors
