Poet Job Description 

Poets compose dramatic, narrative or lyric poetry for books, magazine, websites and other publications.

Poets must select subject matter that allows them to properly express feelings or to narrate an event or a story. 

Typical Job Duties

• Select subject matter that is based on personal or public interest, or commissioned by a publisher or agent

• May create stories and storylines

• Compose poems

• Revise and rewrite work

• Make appearances at book signings and other public and promotional events

• Build upon writing skills by enrolling in coursework and attending workshops

• Maintain awareness of publication opportunities

• Maintain organizational abilities in order to juggle writing, promotional efforts and financial management activities

• Liaise with agents and publishers

• Verify factual content of published work
