Comedy Writer Job Description

Comedy writers are responsible for writing original scripts for various forms of media, which might include comedy sketches, stand-up comedy routines or radio, television, film or theatrical productions. They can also write for online publications, such as blogs, satire news websites and others.

They might work as freelancers, be employed on a part-time or contractual basis, or may be hired as full time employees within an organization or production company.

Typical Job Duties

• Write comedic material for publication, or for performances such as comedy routines and productions

• Work with clients, editors, publishers, or producers to discuss changes or revisions to written material

• Revise material to meet personal standards and to satisfy the needs of clients, publishers, directors, or producers

• May collaborate with other writers

• Follow appropriate procedures in order to obtain copyrights for completed work

• Develop factors such as themes, plots, characters, settings, action, and dialogue

• May submit written work to publications, producers or editors in order to have work published or sold
