English Teacher Abroad Job Description

Teaching English as a foreign language (also known as Teaching English Abroad) involves teaching English to students whose primary language is not English, whether in the teacher’s home country or abroad.

 

Teachers may work in commercial language schools, elementary, middle, secondary and post-secondary institutions, either at home or overseas.

 

Some may also teach on behalf of a school or private organization, while others are self-employed. Students may be of all ages and levels and in various class sizes.

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Plan, prepare and deliver lessons to students

• Prepare and administer tests and examinations

• Mark tests, examinations and assignments, and give feedback to assist with the development of the student

• Manage and supervise the classroom

• May participate in marketing events on behalf of the school

• May teach on a one-to-one basis or teach an entire class of students

• May involve the knowledge of scientific, technical or commercial terms, depending on the level of the class being taught
