Economic policy researchers are responsible for conducting research, monitoring data and analyzing information in order to assist in the development of plans to resolve economic and business problems. Economic policy researchers may work for government agencies, unions, investment firms, banks and research organizations.

Typical Job Duties

• Monitor economic trends at the local, regional, national or international levels

• Assess market potential in order to assist with developing business strategies by conducting local, regional, national and international market conditions

• Advise government agencies about policies that can improve economic conditions

• Prepare forecasts of interest rates and exchange rates

• Examine statistical data related to international trade

• Forecast the production and consumption of renewable resources and the depletion thereof

• Examine economic data to determine the effectiveness of monetary policies

• Forecast production and consumption of specific products and services based on records of past production and consumption and general economic and industry-specific conditions
