Art Auctioneer Job Description
Art auctioneers oversee the bidding and selling processes of artwork during an auction. Art auctioneers also assess the quality, age, condition and origin of fine art pieces in order to give valuations. They may also advise clients on the purchase and sale of fine art.
Job Duties
• Examine pieces of art in order to assess their condition, origin, quality and age
• Provide valuations of artwork
• Confer with experts and historians
• Prepare auction catalogues for customers
• Ensure authenticity by tracing the origins of the artwork
• Ensure proof of ownership by collecting receipts and other documentation
• Run auctions and oversee the bidding and selling processes of art pieces
