Ethnologist Job Description

Ethnologists are responsible for conducting comparative studies of cultures or certain aspects of cultures, in order to determine historical relations and make generalizations concerning human cultural processes and behaviour.

Typical Job Duties

• Plan and conduct research studies

• Prepare reports based on progress and findings of research

• Submit reports to funding bodies, or for the purpose of publication

• May formulate general laws of cultural development

• May formulate rules of social and cultural behaviour

• May be designated as an ethnographer and specialize in describing details of the customs and beliefs of one particular culture
